How to Choose Bathroom Products in Pakistan

1. Choosing the right geyser: gas, electric, or solar

SNGPL/SSGC gas geysers are cheap to run but depend on gas pressure — which often drops dangerously low in winter across Punjab and KP. Electric geysers (30-gal, 2000–2500W) are far more reliable but raise electricity bills and need a dedicated circuit. Instant electric geysers heat on demand, suit single bathrooms, and carry smaller tanks. Solar geysers cost heavily upfront but run free afterwards — an excellent fit for Karachi, Hyderabad, and South Punjab where sun hours are long and consistent year-round.

2. Shower pressure and water tank setup

Most Pakistani homes rely on roof tanks with gravity-fed pressure, which is not enough for rain shower heads — those need a dedicated booster pump. For standard setups, pick a combo with a hand-shower plus a fixed overhead head, which works well with typical tank pressure. A Muslim shower (hand bidet sprayer) is near-mandatory in Pakistani bathrooms and connects easily to the flush inlet. Look for flexible hoses of 120cm+ and brass-body valves to resist hard water.

3. Commode and sanitary selection

Before ordering, check whether your existing floor plumbing is S-trap (down through the floor, common in older construction) or P-trap (out through the wall, common in apartments). One-piece commodes look premium but cost 2–3x more than two-piece units. Dual-flush (3L/6L) saves significant water over the year. Trusted local brands include Sonex, Master, and Porta; imported options from American Standard or Kohler carry longer ceramic warranties but have longer lead times.

4. Materials that survive Pakistani humidity

Coastal cities (Karachi, Gwadar) and the monsoon months corrode cheap chrome fixtures within a year or two. For taps, showers, and towel racks, specify stainless steel 304 grade, PVD-coated brass, or solid ceramic-body fittings — these outlast painted zinc alloy by years. Avoid painted MDF vanities entirely; they swell and peel in humid bathrooms. Choose PVC, waterproof HDF, or solid wood finished with marine-grade lacquer for cabinetry that lasts.

If your SNGPL/SSGC pressure drops in winter, an electric geyser (2000–2500W) or an instant electric geyser is the most reliable. For long-term savings, a solar geyser with electric backup is ideal — especially in Karachi and southern Punjab with high sun hours.

Installation is not included by default. Many cities have local plumbers for PKR 1,500–4,000 per fitting. Geyser installation typically costs PKR 2,500–5,000.

S-trap has the waste outlet going down through the floor — common in older Pakistani construction. P-trap has the outlet going out through the wall — common in newer apartments. Check your bathroom’s existing outlet before ordering.
