1. S-trap vs P-trap — match your existing plumbing

S-trap commodes discharge waste down through the floor and are standard in older Pakistani houses across Lahore, Karachi, and Peshawar. P-trap commodes discharge through the back wall and are common in newer apartments (DHA, Bahria, Emaar). Check your existing pipe routing before ordering: a mismatched trap means expensive plumbing rework. Measure the rough-in distance too — 180mm, 250mm, 305mm, and 400mm are all sold in Pakistan, and the wrong size won’t seat properly.

2. One-piece vs two-piece commodes

One-piece commodes fuse tank and bowl into a single ceramic unit — sleek, easier to clean (no crevice between tank and bowl), and usually flush quieter. They cost 30–80% more than two-piece. Two-piece commodes are the Pakistani mainstream: cheaper, lighter for stair delivery in older homes, and if the tank cracks you replace just the tank instead of the whole unit. For small bathrooms in Karachi apartments, two-piece also offers more compact front-to-back footprint options.

3. Dual-flush and water savings

Dual-flush 3L/6L commodes save 40–60% water vs old single-flush 9L units — a meaningful saving in water-scarce cities like Karachi and parts of Quetta. Look behind your existing commode. If the waste pipe drops into the floor, you need S-trap. If it exits horizontally through the wall, you need P-trap. Older Pakistani houses are nearly all S-trap; newer apartments are mostly P-trap. Measure the rough-in distance too (centre of waste pipe to finished wall).
